History

Founding:

"Straughn's first band started practice this summer during early August. Its 35 members, under the direction of Mrs. Carol Whitman, have made unbelievable progress during that time. They even played at all the football games. Dressed in their smart black and gold uniforms, they gave their first field performance at Homecoming. 'Rocky' was the featured number. Mrs. Whitman and the band members are to be commended on their achievements." - Tigerama, 1977
